5 reasons to Vote Yes

Dear colleagues

If you’re still wondering whether to vote in the pay rise ballot, here are a few points to remember:

  • Your real wages have fallen over the last two years, and you were not overpaid two years ago.
  • Pay cuts for the majority of St Mungo’s workers mean difficulties in recruiting and retaining employees, so that workers end up trying to cover more than one job. This causes stress, burnout and ultimately an inability to meet client needs.
  • The highest paid people at St Mungo’s are overpaid, and increasingly so. If current trends continue, St Mungo’s 12 highest paid employees will share over £20 million between them over the next decade.
  • Claims that St Mungo’s cannot afford to pay workers adequately are contradicted by available data about the organisation’s finances. Please have a look at the email I sent at about 2.30 on Friday for detailed information about this.
  • Your Unite reps will continue to negotiate with management if the ballot is successful. If we don’t win the ballot, we will have no negotiating strength.

Almost all of you have now received your ballot paper, which you can send in the Freepost envelope. If you haven’t received a ballot paper and haven’t been told that you will receive one, please let me know by reply to this email.

Most of the good things about our workplaces were won by union solidarity. We need to maintain that solidarity or our terms and conditions will be continually eroded. Your support is vital.

Best wishes

Jacob
