Dear colleagues
The results of the pay ballot are in. Over 91% have voted for strike action on a turnout of more than 71%. That’s an even better turnout than the hugely successful strike action in 2014.
Now that the democratic process is concluded, all members have an ethical obligation to support the strike. The timing of strike action has yet to be decided and will be discussed at our members’ meeting at 12 on 4 April. Here’s the link again: https://unitetheunion-org.zoom.us/j/92356713457. The passcode is 269689.
Here are the ballot figures:
Yes for strike action: 382
No to strike action: 28
Ballot paper not received in time: 167
We know that some people who wanted to vote did not receive their ballot paper on time, and it is likely that some ballot papers sent in this week were not received by the deadline. We are all at the mercy of the privatised post office.
Some more number-crunching:
Number of St Mungo’s workers who voted to elect the Board of Directors: 0
St Mungo’s workers voting for our dedication throughout the pandemic to be rewarded with a big real-terms pay cut: 0
Votes for the CEO to be paid more than Rishi Sunak and for each director to be paid more than Keir Starmer: 0
Votes for the wishes of bullying managers to be prioritised over dedicated employees and their clients: 0
The democratic process is all on our side – if you don’t want to spend your life being trodden on by unaccountable people, you need to show solidarity with your colleagues and support the strike. That applies to everyone who works for St Mungo’s.
All Unite members will get strike pay. For many, this will be more than their normal wages. All St Mungo’s workers are entitled to join the strike and are protected from any repercussions. You don’t have to tell managers whether you plan to go on strike or not.
A reminder of what we achieved in 2014:

When we stand together, we win.
Please print the two attached documents and put them up in your workplace. If you have any questions, just give me a call.
Best wishes
