Dear comrades
We all know how important the right to strike is. It’s helped us keep our heads above water financially – it’s not just the pay settlement we won last year, or the settlement we won in 2014 which we are all still benefiting from. The standard for wages across the economy would be lower if the right to strike had not been made use of over decades and even centuries. Much lower, and all so people who already have more than they need could have even more.
Now, we have a Government which sets no standards for itself and allows public sector services to deteriorate through poor funding and corruption, but which thinks it’s entitled to require ‘minimum service standards’ during a strike – in effect, using the law to force workers to break a strike. That’s wrong for so many reasons.
As you may already know, this Saturday there will be a march and rally to oppose this unfair and draconian law. It’s in Cheltenham – but don’t worry, free transport is laid on from many places, including London, Bristol, Bath, Brighton and Oxford. So you can protest against the Government’s attacks on your rights and enjoy a free day out!
Please see below for more information about the compulsory strikebreaking bill and the protest, including how Unite members can get a free place on the coach there and back.
Hope to see you there!
Best wishes
Jacob
