Management’s new offer

Dear comrade

As you know, we have received a new offer from management.

The most important parts of this offer are as follows:

– A pay increase of £1050 per year for every worker up to NJC scale point 36 (that’s almost everyone).

– 3 extra days’ leave for almost all workers.

The pay increase is indefinite, so our pay remains linked to the NJC scale, but whatever the NJC says you should get, you will now get £1,050 more. You will continue to get NJC pay increases each year as before. That includes this year’s increase, which will be at least £1,925. If workers vote to accept this offer, both the additional £1,050 per year and the current year’s increase of £1,925 will be reflected in your pay very shortly.

This offer is not what we asked for, but it is a lot better than what we have.

For a worker on £21,000 a year, it represents a 5% pay increase. For a worker on £30,000 a year it’s a 3.5% pay rise. If you wish to attribute a financial value to the extra leave, that’s worth about an extra 1.3%.

If members decide to accept the offer, we will all return to work on Thursday.

If members reject the offer, we will all remain on strike I will return to management and ask them to make an improved offer.

You should by now have received an email with a link you can use to vote. Some of you will also have received a text. You can use either to cast your vote but each member can only vote once.

If you haven’t yet received a link enabling you to vote, please contact our Unite officer, steve.o’donnell@unitetheunion.org. You will not get a response until Monday but don’t worry, you will be able to vote. You are welcome to copy me in and I will follow up to make sure you receive the link.

The ballot will close on Wednesday. Please remain on strike at least until then and wait to hear the outcome of the ballot.

If anyone has any questions for me, you are welcome to telephone me.

solidarity
