Dear members
As you know, Mungo’s bosses have made a new offer. Our union exists to serve its members and we will implement your decision on whether to accept or reject the offer. If you decide to reject, we will set a new date for strike action.
The new offer is for £1 million per year across the whole of the organisation. The amount includes the cost of employer NI and pension contributions, so the total going to workers will be less (a little under £850,000).
This is a consolidated offer, which is a positive. In a sense, management have stopped standing outside the window making rude gestures and finally decided to come into the negotiating room to talk. That is a step in the right direction.
However, the reps’ team has decided unanimously to recommend rejection of the offer. The steady erosion of the value of our wages since 2014 leaves us 25% worse off. Our pay claim does not go far enough to make up for this loss of pay, so it’s already a compromise. And we are willing to compromise further. But the amount being offered is still not enough.
Sadly, the CEO Emma Haddad has circulated an email repeating discredited assertions about St Mungo’s ability to afford a wage increase. It is surprising that Emma expects workers to take this seriously after refusing to share management accounts and failing to explain how management’s interpretation differs so vastly from published financial information.
I’ve attached two documents. One is labelled ‘Response to Emma’ which explains what’s wrong with the dubious financial claims bosses have been churning out.
The other document sets out the various possibilities suggested by management as to how the amount offered might be divided up. Please remember that whatever your share might be, you will have to pay income tax and employee National Insurance. You can multiply by 0.68 for an estimate of the net figure.

The ballot will close at 5pm on 5 May.
If you have any questions, please get in touch.
In solidarity,
Jacob
