As you know, our pay rise from St Mungo’s is a measly 1.75%. Inflation is officially 8.2%, in reality much more.
Chief Exec Steve Douglas has awarded himself a 13% pay rise. His opinions on the level of pay increase needed in the current economic climate appear to lack consistency.
The law allows trades unions to see information held by their employer which they need for collective bargaining purposes. I suspect Steve Douglas might say St Mungo’s can’t afford a proper pay increase for frontline workers, so I asked for a copy of St Mungo’s management accounts to see whether that might be true. Steve says he doesn’t think we need to see them, but the law says otherwise.
Right now, St Mungo’s faces a recruitment crisis. Even the recruitment team is short of staff. Huge amounts are being spent on agency workers because of the difficulties retaining and recruiting workers. Wouldn’t it make sense to pay St Mungo’s workers properly rather than bring in far more expensive agency workers? Steve doesn’t think so, and in case you might form a different conclusion, he wants to keep the accounts to himself.
In our informal online ballot, members voted by 272 votes to eight to reject this disgraceful pay offer. Please come to our meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1pm to discuss how we can build a campaign to get ourselves a proper pay rise. The Zoom details again:

Please talk to your colleagues and put the attached poster up in every St Mungo’s facility you can. We know that St Mungo’s workers don’t deserve a reduction in the value of our pay for our efforts in the recent past. We need to make sure the executive team understand this too.
