A help, but not enough

Dear friends

Most of us have received an additional £350 in our gross pay today, and will receive a further £350 in next month’s pay.

If you haven’t received the money and think you meet the criteria, please write to HR and cc: jacob.sanders@mungos.org. If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to contact me to discuss.

This additional money is entirely due to the pay campaign run by Unite. It’s a concession to our pay dispute and would not have been achieved without our campaign.

Unite has made clear that this is not enough. We are being paid, in real terms, substantially less than we were getting two years ago. A one-off payment is adequate only if you think prices are going to come down again – and since inflation is now running at 13.4%, that doesn’t look very likely.

We need a consolidated (indefinite) payrise to raise the real value of our pay back to where it was early in 2021. If you agree, please put up the attached poster in your workplace.

Ballot papers are going in the post today so most of them should be received tomorrow. Please vote yes and send in the ballot paper in the freepost envelope straight away.

Unite representatives met with St Mungo’s People Director regarding planned redundancies today and Unite’s opposition to compulsory redundancies was made absolutely clear. There will be a further meeting with senior management next week when we will be able to ask more detailed questions about the proposals.

Please remember our virtual union meeting next Wednesday 1 March at 5.30. Here’s the link again:

I hope to see you then.

Best wishes

Jacob
